Macedonian Language

Macedonian is a South Slavic language spoken as a first language by approximately 2 million people principally in the Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo (where it is one of the official languages), as well as in Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania. It is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia and an official minority language in parts of Albania, Romania and Serbia. Linguistically, Macedonian is not related to any other languages in any other language family; it forms a branch of the Indo-European family by virtue of its descent from common Proto-Indo-European. As of 2005, there were an estimated 1.2 million speakers of Macedonian. It is the only Slavic language with any official status in Europe.
