Lao Language

Lao language, also known as Laotian, Isan or Lao Loum, is an Austro-Thai language spoken in Laos and Thailand. It is the official language of Laos and one of the official languages of Thailand, along with Thai. The Lao language has several dialects that are not mutually intelligible. They are all tonal languages, which means that use of different tones in a word changes the meaning. This makes the language quite complicated to learn and pronounce. In Thailand, Lao is written in the Thai alphabet with some additional letters. In Laos, it is written in the Lao script.
