Georgian Language

Georgian is the main language spoken in Georgia. It was created during the 5th century, but it has changed and developed over many centuries to become what it is today. Georgian is spoken by approximately 4.5 million people as a primary language and serves as a second language for some 2 million more. Roughly eighty percent of the Georgian population speak their native tongue as a first language, with Russian and Armenian languages being the next most common mother tongues. The majority of Georgians are Orthodox Christians, and the literacy rate of Georgian speakers stands at 99%.
