Danish Language

Danish, a North Germanic language spoken by 5 million people, primarily in Denmark and the Faroe Islands (a Danish archipelago). As one of the official languages of the European Union, Danish has considerable influence on the content of legislation. The language is closely related to Norwegian and Swedish; it is understood by approximately 75% of Swedes, who are generally able to read Danish as well. The Danish and Norwegian languages form a dialect continuum and are considered dialects of a common Scandinavian language.
