Maltese Language
The Maltese language is a Semitic language spoken by over 400,000 people living in Malta and Gozo (two islands located in the Mediterranean Sea). It is known as Malti, which means 'language of the people', or Għana. The Maltese language evolved from Siculo-Arabic, with some influences from Italian, French, and English. For example: the word for cat is gatt (pronounced gat), but the loan word for cat is gattino (pronounced jatteeno).
